Jason Pollen workshop
September 15th, 2008

Thanks to a lot of hard work by Emmie Seaman, Uncommon Threads also sponsored a two-day Jason Pollen workshop at RuBert Studios on the opening weekend of ThreadLines.

The class involved lots of drawing exercises and experiments at building texture and color using acrylic gel medium as a base, then stitching or altering the paper and fabric collages in any possible way.

Gel medium drying on fabric-covered papers.

Merrilee gets wild with the graphite, while Donna and Susan, a visiting artist from Florida watch with amusement.

While the clock ticks, Lucy and Emmie fuse fabric to paper.

Lettie and Maureen work beside another visiting artist.

Finally, disussion of work in the gallery. Here’s a few samples of people’s work:

Cathy Jefferies

Susan Leslie Lumsden

Emmie Seaman

Roberta Ranney

Dianna Callahan

Carol Bormann

Lettie L. Blackburn

[…] Jason didn’t much like our fluorescent lighting, but really we just got the floors and walls done, lighting is next on the list. For photos of people’s work done in the class, check out the Uncommon Threads post here. […]

Many thanks to all of you in Uncommon Threads for making the Jason Pollen workshop a reality. I learned so much and enjoyed the focus on abstraction. The Threadlines exhibit is super - I want to see it several times to take it all in.
Thank you also to Pam for allowing the use of her fantastic studio - it was great.
And the piece above with “not sure who did this, but it is beautiful” is mine.
